You sure sound sweet. You're probably just overly anxious and trying too hard, and you're making yourself nervous.
Just try to relax. Remind yourself what a catch you are, and be determined to be yourself and to just show them what kind of a person you really are. Remember that they're probably as nervous to talk to you as you are.
And even though the fear of rejection seems huge, remind yourself that the worse that can happen is you move on and find other more worthy girls to talk to!
It might help to have some REAL topics in mind to share. Something interesting to you and them, something regarding news, or school, or some other appealing topic. Or have some questions prepared, because if you're too nervous to talk, many times people feel fine talking about themselves! ("Did you go anywhere this year?" "What are you planning on doing when you get out of school?" And other conversational makers.)
Having in your head what you plan to say, may help you feel more comfortable talking. And just remember to smile a lot, make at least brief eye contact, and be polite. What girl could fault that!
Best wishes. <3
EDIT: We could use more 16-year old age appropriate questions like this one. *lol*

The only thing I can suggest is that practice makes perfect, and the more you know about girls then the easier it will be to find something to talk about.
One hint I will give for better conversation is don't ask closed questions, ask open questions, that is questions that can't be answered with a yes or a no.
E.g.
Closed questions...
Did you have fun today?
Did you think it was funny?
Open questions...
What did you do today?
What was funny about it?
Failing that watch 'Hitch', there's some fun hints for conversation with girls in that movie!
Good luck hon! :o)

Hi- I know this is going to sound stupid.. But I use to be the same way... Id get all tongue tied when I was nervous... and I kind of stumbled across something that fixed it for me. I started reading all these books, any book by Dean Koontz, Harlem Coban... I mean.. .ANY KIND OF BOOK... And over time... I started to become a better speaker, I dont hardly ever get tongue tied anymore, and I dont studder over my words as much anymore. It has to be from reading.... thats the only thing thats changed! So try it out and see for yourself.. The worst that could happen is you find a book you love, but the best could be finding a cure for your tongue tied issues.

I suspect your problem is rooted in your being a 16 year old guy. You're in the stride of puberty and have virtually no self-esteem. It's totally normal. You should worry more if girls don't make you tongue-tied at your age. Confidence with women comes from practice. Put yourself into conversatiosn with girls where you feel safe. Talk to female cousins or older women or women who's job it is to talk to you. Build up positive experiences with the opposite sex and you'll find yourself more and more comfortable with them.

You have to not care. That ugly girl you talk to all the time likes you a lot. You don't care what she thinks so you're just you. Of course she mostly likes you because you're more attractive than her...I digress. You can't be afraid and you can't think they're better than you. Other than that you've got to know how to do the small talk thing. I suck at it so I only get with girls I actually know pretty well.

You're just feeling nervous or perhaps fear rejections. Keep practicing in front of a mirror or ask a female family member what girls your age like. Hope these sites will help ya out more.

Dont go right out and try for it. Wait till that special someone comes along on her own. You'll know when it's right because there wont be a question reguarding how comfortable or open you are.

why is that u don't get tongue tied talking to a boy. it is coz u don't think much when u talk to a boy. u just speak what comes out. just be what u r and if ur not good at humour don't worry, if u can't make girls laugh just laugh at their silly jokes even if u hate it.

just be your self and talk to them any chance you get. The more you do it the more comfy youll be. Make friends with some girls you can hang out with / talk to ect .youll get over it. If that dont help maybe your gay and should find a boyfriend .

its normal for alot of boys..start with hi how are you? then converse with them thinking of them as a friend of yours ..not just as girls...try to notice what they are interested in and ask a question about it ..or find out what a particular girl likes and study up on it..then youll know youll have a subject to talk about and youll be more relaxed
