Yes adults can be legally adopted.
1 reason someone would do so is because they have no children and want to leave their estate to someone.
Some people do it because they are lonely.
Draw back is you could lose everything to a swindler
or the person could be senile and the adoption wouldnt be legal then. got to be of sound mind.

Never heard of it before but that don't mean nothing :) Maybe if the adult is "slow" or can not live on there own.
Drawbacks, you would have to adapted your life so you could help this person out. But this could also be a good thing!

You can't adopt an adult. However, if they are mentally or physically disabled and need 24-hour care, you can become their guardian in a foster care situation. It works just like foster care for children. You have to take classes and be certified. You get paid each month depending on how severely handi-capped the person is.

you could be a 'in-home care worker'....I don't think there are any drawbacks except that you have to pretty much take care of them, clean for them, etc. I don't know if they could live with you, or if they would fall under any of the 'adoption' laws...but I know you get paid for it. A lot of people scam the system just to get cash, though.

Not exactly, but you can be appointed as their conservator. If an adult is unable to take care of their basic everyday needs, such as pay their monthly bills, cook or clean, etc. you can go to court and have the court appoint a conservator to take care of them. It may take a doctors report or two. I am in the process now concerning my step-mother, and don't know all the details yet.

Yes, the process isn't all that uncommon for inheritance law. I'm sure there are other reasons.
