I have set traps and catch at least 50 a week in each (3). I cant find a nest and they seem to be drawn to my aspen trees. Removing the trees is not an option. Is there a concentrate I can put in a sprayer? The canned stuff is getting expensive and does not keep them away though it does kill em. Am i screwed until winter and try to stop em early next spring? They have attacked me, 4 stings and I have little kids I worry about. I am willing to try anything short of a flame thrower,or yanking the trees. Prefer not to use an exterminator but if that is my only option so be it.

Have you looked in the ground for the nest? They are probably ground hornets if they are that aggressive. In the morning or in the evening there will be the most traffic into or out of the nest. Watch them to see where the hive is. It is probably near the base of the aspen trees.

I had to call an exterminator. They are WAY too aggressive to try to attack the in-ground nest on your own. If you do hire an exterminator, make sure there is a guarantee of retreating. If there are hornets outside the nest when the nest is killed, they will quickly start a new hive someplace nearby. Best time to treat is late or early in the day, when most of them are in the hive for the night.

Dang, you definitely have a problem with those pests. If it were me, I would try the aspertane stuff. A gal had posted awhile back about using it on ants and wasps. She had taken aspertane, found readily in fake sugars, and put it in a jar lid, added a few drops of water to make it moist, then place the lids around the trees. The yellow jackets will feed on it and take it back on their legs to the nest and the rest of the pests will feed on it too and they should be gone. It worked great on ants . I know for a fact,, I used it and have seen no ants for over a month, so far.
Good luck!

Find a hole in the ground where yellow jackets live and pour scalding hot water into their nest -that usually kills them. Yellow jackets build nests far from trees and may be closer to your house than you think.

Yellow jackets nest in the ground and you can usually find the nest near dark if you watch them carefully. Once found, you can pour gasoline from a soda bottle into the hole, no more yellow jackets.

I think you should stick with the exterminator. You wouldn't want to risk getting stung. If you are willing to do it by yourself, Try Dawn Dishsoap with HOT water on the nest.
Good LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My grandmother always uses regular Dawn dishsoap mixed with water. From what I have seen it really does work.
