I find it a dimishing term for the body part. Whether used by men or women, I get really irritated by it.

Does anyone else feel that way.

I an appreciate that it might be an easy way (light hearted!) to refer to 'breasts' in that way, but I think that is a problem too, that it needs that uphamism - like the use of the term 'sleeping with' - meaning, 'having sex with...'

you've kinda got a point there, and it just goes to show how little people think about the human body (or at least, how they thought of it when "boob" came into usage).

However, words evolve and take on new meanings. Most people don't know of the original meaning of the word boob... And even out of those that do know, a lot of them still automatically think of "boob" as being "breast." Things change with time, and sometimes it's best to accept the change rather than fight it.

By the way, I've never heard of boob meaning "mistake". I've heard of it as a "stupid or foolish person."

You have some good answers. People like to make nicknames for all kinds of things. I agree that proper language expression requires us to use proper terms for what we are describing so that there can be no misunderstanding. The breasts probably have more nicknames than just about any other part of the body. This can be confusing. So I recommend that you use the proper terms, breasts or bosoms, and good luck on trying to get everybody around you to comply with your request. It will be easier for you to let everybody else say what they want to say because they will find your proper term request to be a bit stuffy.

I think BOOBS, is a good term for breasts, B,that looks like two boobs viewed from above, then OO, say no more, back to B, then you have all those female curves in S.
I think it is one of the nicer terms, but then i am male, what do i know?

Boob is short for the word booboisie. I copied the definition:

boob‧oi‧sie  /ˌbubwɑˈzi/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[boo-bwah-zee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun a segment of the general public composed of uneducated, uncultured persons.

Perhaps boobs make men dumb, ya think?

Not really bothered about making a 'boob' myself or even making an 'a s s' of myself, I am not too fond of the word 'faux pas' that seems to doing the rounds in some areas at the moment, just seems a silly pointless word to me.

Is 't i t s' better?? And honestly, when you are putting on a size 38 'G' bra everyday, I think the word boobs (mistake) truely applies. Try not to take it so literal, it is just a word, call them what you want and teach your kids to call them 'tatas' or something cutsie and silly. Whatever works for you. :)

Nope, Not at all. There's good boobs (breasts) and bad boobs (dummies). Ya just gotta know the difference.
