When you purchased your vehicle: did you sign a title ? (the prev. owners name would have been there) Run a Carfax report ? (again prev. owner or history)
Buy from a NEW car dealer ? (would have checked for open recalls as part of inspection)
"Telling" some one something (anything) about a vehicle & disclosing (on paperwork) are 2 different things.
Laws regarding pre-owned vehicles, depends on who you bought it from.

Private seller= buyer beware
Used car lot = same as above
On line = same as above

New Car Dealer= full disclosure in writing & dealer will offer warranties to you at YOUR option ( weather or not YOU read what you sign or purchase options is another story)

I know you probably don't like what I've answered but please don't shoot the messenger ! Too many people buy cars without checking out anything themselves, and then they want to find somebody else at fault for their own lack of research or failure to read what they sign.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Good Luck
