The cost of a tree is determined by many factors. These will include size (a larger, older tree will be much more expensive), rarity, shaping (oddly shaped tree that have had to be pruned or formed will be more expensive), shipping & installation costs (large trees that must be planted with a tree spade will be very expensive), etc. Even a simply oak tree can become extremely expensive if you decide to go with a 40 ft. tall one planted in a courtyard!!

As to flowers, Blaze has it backwards -- annuals are the ones that die out each year and you need to buy new ones (annum = year). Perennials will come back year after year, but they do die off during the winter, leaving the ground looking bare. Exotic, imported flowers are expensive, but extremely difficult to maintain in climates they do not belong in.

BTW, who are you trying to impress?! ;~)

Red Maples are pretty expensive. Slow growers too, but they keep a rounded beutiful shape as they grow and look awesome in the fall.

Bulbed flowers or Annuals are the way to go. The perrenials are nice but they die off each year and you have to go buy more.

Sego palms are an expensive tree. I prefer the Plumeria, nice tree with fragrant blooms every year.
