The 1950s were a host to many self-produced/no budget "cheapies" that were so awful they ended up becoming "cult classics" years later.

Those Ed Wood films come to mind, especially the unintentionally hilarious "BRIDE OF THE MONSTER" with Bela Lugosi playing the mad scientist and Tor Johnson playing his "monster-partner" Lobo. This was Ed Wood's "worst" at its best... There's so much stuff in there that makes absolutly no cinematographic sense in there, not even mentionning the crude and limited acting from most involved.

Also, Ed Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is such an awful final product that anyone can't help but see it as (at the very least) a reference point as to what not to do in a film. Still the film was released, and much later became a classic, often refered to as "the worst film ever made". Yet it is such a fun romp to watch, you just can't help but have fun watching it.

Alot of sci-fi horror from that era (the 50s and 60s) were poorly produced pieces of "crap" which were designed to cash in on the craze at the time. Some took themselves seriously while others seemed to poke fun at themselves.

In more recent years, I find that I enjoy alot of what people consider "bad" films, just because I find so much fun and entertainment in them. The "LOST IN SPACE" with William Hurt and Gary Oldman is a prime example. I can never get enough of that film! Also, George Romero's 4th instalment in his "Dead" films, the "Land Of The Dead" is also amongst those films; die hard fans didn't like that film as much as the other three in his series, while the newer generation couldn't tell the difference between "Land..." and other recent zombie films (like the remake of "Dawn Of The Dead".

But perhaps one of my ultimate favorite bad films is the made-for-TV flick "RED WATER" with Lou Diamond Philips and Kristy Swanson (and Coolio too!). I found myself enjoying it so much that I actually bought it on DVD at $6 new/scealed!

There's also a horroble shark film out there called "Shark Attack 3: Megalodon", which features some of the most laughable shark attack special effects. I mean no single person was able to keep a straight face when I showed them those shark attacks. The guy on the Sea-Doo is perhaps the most memorable...

Cheers!

I think the first Evil Dead movie fit that catagory. I like Lake Placid too.
