Gosh, the only reason for boiling water is when there is an advisory that something would be harmful in the water.

Boiling is not good if you have hard water because the elements (like lead) that are in the water don't boil away, they just become more concentrated as the water boils away. Filtering is better.

Filtered water is absolutely fine. I'd say better than boiled cos it gets rid of the chlorine whereas if you boil water too much it gets rid of oxygen. Although, of course, in certain situations boiled is recommended eg where water treatment may not be up to standard.

For the first question there is not enough information. Are you wondering about what is best to use in wilderness situations? during natural disasters? normal at-home use?

The second question needs a little clarification. There is nothing lost with boiled water that is cooled. But boiled water that has the steam cooled (distilled) lacks the minerals and other dissolved solids.

I would choose the filtered water. It filters everything. Boiling water will kill bacteria but it won't get rid of lead or rust or minerals that are harmful to you.

Nothing's lost when boiling. All boiling does is kill any germs/bugs that may be around. It's totally safe and advisable when using strange water.

Boiling water kills all the bacteria in it, but filtered water removes the chemicals and minerals (harmfull or not) that may be present in it too.

All I know is that boiling water is a sure way to kill most, if not all, bacteria contained within the water.
