Tony Blair began his first term as Prime Minister seemingly filled with revolutionary zeal and accompanied by tremendous goodwill from the British public. Tired and brow-beaten by years of Tory misrule, we desperately wanted the New Labour project to work. Did it? Hardly.

Blair has managed to squander the 1997 goodwill spectacularly. I cannot recall there ever having been a worse Prime Minister. He is now universally loathed. The reasons are as obvious as the day is long. Government incompetence at home on a colossal scale, foreign adventures of breathtaking stupidity and blatant corruption are the hallmarks of Blair's nine years in power. He is a failure and should be put out to pasture NOW.

Gordon Brown would be no better, I am afraid. He is as closely associated with the Blair disaster as anyone.

Think about this all them years of the Tories and labour including Tony Blair challenged every bad decision they made. i.e, screwing up the country sell everything that the British paid for. In steps Tony Blair give all the money the Tories made and more to immigrants and overseas aid.

Do you really think Gordon Brown will not continue the trend he'll probably sell the NHS.

Personally whoever is in power their priority is to take care of themselves and their own kind as in the wealthy.

No Gordon Brown might as well be Gordon Bennett who ever he is?

Yes - contrary to earlier answers I don't think Blair is brave in the decisions he takes. The NI problem would be more settled if he had shown courage when faced with tough decisions and as far as foreign policy goes, he is frightened to go against that lunatic Bush.

Brown would be better, but perhaps after 100 years of Tory/Labour we need a complete change. Come on England, Scotland and Wales give us a real change of government.

Why have I left out NI - well our votes don't really count unless you have a 'hung parliament'.

Blair is suffering from a problem referred to by social psychologists as "Groupthink", i.e. he has become isolated from the people he represents and makes serious mistakes because he sees information only to fit his unrealistic view of the world.

I suspect Brown would be even worse. I cannot understand why Labour MPs do not see that he would bring to a head the "West Lothian" question. MPs from Scottish seats (incidentally Blair is also of Scottish origin but sits for an English seat) vote on issues like Health, Transport and Prisons in relation to England when responsibility for these areas North of the Border has been devolved to the Scottish Parliament. Westminster funds Scotland (and Wales) preferentially compared to England.

You try to compare Blair and Brown, but the deep divides in the Labour Party because of their rivalry is in itself highly damaging to the country as well as to Labour's prospects. The trouble is that the Government is manifestly lacking in talent from which smebody else could emerge as Prime Minister.

I do not believe that Cameron or Cambell would do any better. The Tories are for all their bluster still the party of the rich and the Liberal Democrat's recent leadership election highlighted the poor quality of their MPs, who are dismal even in comparison to the two larger parties.

You ask about two individual personalities, but the United Kingdom has major problems because of problems in its political system. The country lacks essential arrangements if it is to function effectively into the future either internally or in its international relations. Vital institutions such as Parliament, the Cabinet and local government are not functioning effectively. The poor quality of our politicians is a result as well as a cause of these institutional problems.

Yes. Blair,s arrogance knows no bounds. After losing seats in the last election he said he would listen. Has he? NO! His only interest now is feathering his nest in Europe or the UN for a job when he goes. I dont share enthusiasm for Brown, he is the High Priest of Taxation and even taxed pension funds. I dont know the answer but we need a complete overhaul as Blair has proved all politicians are untrustworthy.

Who would be any different in the labour party? So id say no.The Tory and Libs are no hopers too.We need a total clean out of the lot of them and new people normal family men and women should stand for local government. And one other thing,it should be against the law to stand for any political postion if you are a lawyer then mybe we can have straight talk in the commons instead of ducking and diving the questions as we see now.

tony blair has always been an excellent prime minister, the thing is the media get bored and start to turn the public against him and a lot of people believe them, but just compare the standard of living now to what it was when he took over and you will realise how good he is
