Yes I think that is meant to be offensive. I know people that I have as clients that would hurt you if you called them that! Some people do not take that kind of insult in a good way! If you called me that, I would probably be "miffed" but in the grand scheme of things you could do things or call me worse things that would make me angrier.
Anyone who uses this expression may get what they are asking for, I know some people who are already "MAD AS HELL" so I think I would be careful to consider who and when I said it to...
Now people cannot come after you via computer, well they can, but why bother? Eventually if this person uses it, she will use it on someone who will not let it go, then she will know what a huge mistake it is to do the name-calling thing. Just using words to hurt people may seem harmless on the surface, and I know we have all heard the "sticks and stones will break my bones, but "WORDS" will never hurt me" addage...but I am telling your right now, say "worthless turd" to the wrong person and you may be picking your teeth up off of the floor!
I know, I have worked with ANGRY people for a long time, and sometimes all is takes is a few words to set them off on a murderous rampage! Sometimes what goes around comes back to bite you where it really hurts...like a good beat down! Now I have been called out to try to reason with more than one person who has gone off (lost it) for less, so I KNOW what I am talking about!

Gee I am sure that being called any kind of "turd" would be considered offensive, but worthless is the worst kind of turd that you can be, I am sure that a "worthwhile turd" would be considered a good thing if you were a turd, but worthless, well that is just rude and inconsiderate.
