George and Ira Gershwin
There isn't a bad song by them! From Someone to Watch Over Me to Rhapsody in Blue, Gershwin is classic. I think nearly everyone knows a Gershwin song even if they don't know it's Gershwin!

Carl Orff. His "Carmina Burana" makes me shiver (in the good meaning of this word). From moderns.....Difficult.....Hmmm... Tori Amos and Martin L. Gore. There was a time they used to create some interesting things. Tori makes them until now.

J.S.Bach - the man's been dead for more than two hundred years and I'm still learning from him. Tremendous teacher.
Second place: John Williams (Hollywood) for his marvellously evocative movie music.
