China has always been a superpower... but they don't attact attention to themselves by threatening war. They watched in amusement as the US bankrupted Russia during the arms race.

The Cold War devastated Russia financially and has eliminated the only effective army in Asia/Europe. If they chose to do so they could have beachfront property on the Mediteranean Sea by next Friday morning and be driving through the Chunnel by that evening.

China's might is not it's Army, China's biggest weapon is its economy. When China opens up its economy to a free market instead of keeping an artificial ceiling on the yuan you will see how insidiously the Dragon has set it's claws in the US and the world.

Every country in the world has huge Chinese communities and when the Chinese currency is open for investment you will see every major economy nosedive making American and European companies ripe for investment and takeovers by the Chinese. And who will have the cash? The Chinese nationals who are conveniently located nearby to lend a hand. And who will lead the US divisions of these Chinese owned companies? Well look at it this way... do you speak Mandarin Chinese yet?

China is a communist superpower but is changing quite quickly into an economic superpower and thriving. You should remember that China, less than 100 years ago was controlled by the last of the Manchu Dynasty, (overthrown by revolution). It was a country of provinces run by warlords. Not until the 1920's did the people challenge this rule led by such people as Sun Yat-sen. It is still a young country, politically, but it is progressing towards democracy and , I would guess, to being the Federal Republic of China.

China, is going through an industrial revolution and the Yuan has never been stronger because they are exporting. The golden rule of political power is don't nuke the country you're exporting to. but they also export dodgy stuff to dodgy people too. Eventually, they will have to decide - sell arms or MP3 players - I think they will choose the latter. That will bugger up some would be nuclear powers and some terrorists. Besides if we have a population of 60 million why are there 84 million National insurance numbers in circulation and why are there 100 million people registered to vote? Bearing in mind kids don't have national insurance numbers or vote that means we have double the number of people eligible to work than we should have and 16 million voters who don't have a national insurance number. Confused ? Not as much as the Chinese!

No- the US is pretty much trying to stay on the good side of China and get in with trade there and such. Bottom line is that the Cold War is over... and has been... there can be no cold war without fear... and the US government is no longer fearful of communism since it's fall in the eastern block.

How does which country control its huge population? China? China is pretty freakin' big... and while it has ridiculously populated cities... it also has really rural areas...

China and U.S. are somewhat inter-dependent for the trade partnership. If either side collapses, the other side will suffer some major economic blows.

As in terms of U.S. being scared? Well, the rule of politics is still Darwinism, with a twist. It's not Survival of the Fittest, but Survival of the Strongest. So imagine if you are the strongest kid in your class who gets to rule your classmates, then all of a sudden, another kid gets stronger with a threat to replace your position as the "ring leader". How would you feel? I'd say you'd try to keep an eye on him, and secretly wishes to weaken him by causing a few troubles out of others' sight.....but you can't really just declare war on him, because both of the families do business with each other.

I'd say THREATENED is a better word.

US should not be scared of China, because of its democractic priciples. Nobody can take america away from the americans, leave alone the chinese, indians or koreans. Its their country, and they have worked their asses out to make it a first world country for the outsiders............so why are people feeling J. If u can ape the west, and emulate it...........then why are u so jealous. U can also learn to be and think like an american.........u is stopping u. Take the good, and leave the rest. In the sam eway, america should adopt the good, and ignore the worst of other countries, and not have this false proclaim..... that ours is the best....every country is blessed, some with good, so with little, and some with poverty in the name of spirituality.. so they belive in an Almighty to help them during joy and sorrowful times.

If / when China becomes a superpower we won't be able to do anything about it, so we better watch out. They will probably get together with the other emerging superpower 'INDIA' they are a bit further behind but growing fast.....the days of the west being dominant are dying.....a new world order is coming......I hope they treat us better than we have treated them in the past!
