Sounds like the starter is going bad. Replace the starter.

it could be the battery. go get that check first. if you have a Sears in your town, they will check the battery for free. also they will let you know if it is something else.
if it is not the battery, it can be the alternator, starter. or a combination of these.
it really does not matter how old your car is, these are operational parts of the cars which eventually wear out and need to be replaced.
if you dont have a Sears around, go to your mechanic. all they do is run a test and see what it tell them.
ok, first things first. get someone to give you a jump, that should start your car. dont turn it off. if anything put it in neutral and everytime you stop at a light or stop sign but the gear in neurtal so the car does not stop and continue to take it until u get to the gargage.

It could be the starter but I would start with the starer selonoid. When you turn the key that is a low voltage low amp circut and it powers a relay called the starter selonoid (probably spelled wrong). When that relay pulls in it makes the connection for the higher amp circut to the starter itself. If the selonoid is bad that could be the click click your getting. Plus it's easier to get to than the started and cheeper for the first try. But again it could be that the selonoid is fine and the starter is just not turning.
Best of Luck

Starter or alternator. Be careful having places like Auto Zone test it out. I did that once and they told me my alternator was fine and I just needed a new battery. Two days later I broke down in the middle of traffic. Turns out, it was the alternator after all.

Before spending money on repairs, check that the battery terminals are clean and securely tightened. Remove each battery lead from the battery and rinse the lead and terminal with soapy warm water to remove any buildup of corrosion etc. Then tighten the lead/s back onto the battery terminal/s without over tightening. Hope this helps.

Check your battery, some places test it for free, Like Auto zone
it could also be an internal short in the starter.

You have a problem with either the ignition wires or the starter. Go to www.cartalk.com and ask the Tappet Bros. from NPR what to do.

it can be the starter, the starter solenoid, a loose cable on the battery or a lose cable on the starter or solenoid.
