Paul, my point was it's disappointing that when you find a good band they change their style to sell records. I know they have to make a buck but it's just hard to find good music these days. I'm also referring to the bands who put down other bands who do that and then do it themselves. Not some big thing. I was just making an observation lol

Most get eaten up with greed and sell out for more money which, in my opinion, means they are not true to themselves.

I find it amusing that people that are fans of bands seem to think that if they (the bands) allow someone to use their music commercially in and advertisement that they have "sold out" without thinking about what the band can do with the money: donate it or a part of it to charity. Its their songs, not yours, and they should be allowed to do with it what they want, even if people do not approve of it. You can't give away a million dollars if you don't have a million dollars, and let's face it - the music industry IS commercial. Do you honestly think these bands would do it for free? If so, you don't have any idea of how much it costs it equipment, training and travel expenses to have a successful band. Anything less than at least "breaking even" and you will go bankrupt in no short order.

Just like trends (think the Rachel Haircut) sometimes a band is just so cool that everybody likes them. Some of them sell out due to no fault other than they are good and people, as a mass market, demand so and their labels feed into it. Think System of a Down. I'm a fan from 96, but then Toxicity hit. I cried when they "sold out." Same thing for most bands that "sell out" unless they have horrible marketing managers, like NSync and the Pussycat Dolls. Made specifically to sell out.

People who sell out are just like anyone else that wants to make money. I mean if u have a job that really isnt going anywhere but u make some decent money and then a promotion gets offered to you... what are u going to do? Say no cause u dont want to sell out the position u are in? yeah right? Its human nature to take the better deal. If u were one of those bands with 4 or more members in it and you only say make 1-3 million after costs and u need to split that with ur band, ur only walking away with barely anything. G&R did sell out also. I mean for goodness sakes I use to have G&R pencils, lunch box, big buttons, a blanket even. So everyone sells out trust me. Who wouldnt want more money?

That's because pop music stinks on ice. I would suggest going to see the Rolling Stones or Static-X or even a band called DOPE they sell out every show i would also suggest going to see Korn live as they put on a awesome show. Please for the love of god don't go to a rap concert because all they sing about is degrading women and shooting their own race of people. These bands dont sell out to the music industry thank god. Music should be written by the bands and not changed by the labels they are signed with just to satisfy i certain demographic.

I def agree... I've been into rock/punk bands for a long time and all of the bands I used to listen to that were unknown about 5 years ago are all of a sudden being sung by preteens who only listen to them because they are on MTV. I think shows like TRL & countdowns are corrupting the music industry.

The originality and edgyness that the rock bands normally had are now softened up and commercialized to attract more teeny-boppers who will buy their merchandise!

I'm a disgruntled fan...

IT'S A MONEY THING.I GREW UP IN THE 70'S AND BACK THEN, KISS WAS THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD.THEY DID A WHOLE ALBUM OF DISCO TYPE MUSIC, AND THE FANS WERE SICK ABOUT IT.IT STILL HAD A ROCK EDGE TO IT, SO IT DIDNT SOUND LIKE THE BEE GEES, BUT IT WASN'T EXACTLY HEAVY METAL, EITHER.OF COURSE, THEY WENT BACK TO THE MUSIC THAT THE FANS LOVED, AND ROCKED ON FOR ANOTHER 3 DECADES, SO IT DIDN'T HURT THEM ANY.TELL ME HOW MANY BANDS FROM TODAY WILL BE AROUND IN 30 YEARS, I DOUBT IF ANY WILL.TODAYS MUSIC JUST DOESN'T HAVE THE STAYING POWER OF MUSIC FROM THE 60'S AND 70'S.

I am dating an ex-drummer for a band that almost made it. the resason they didn't was because this guy that offered them a record contract for a demo cd said only if they softened their music so more people would listen to it. they didn't want to sell out and now they are split up and my boyfriend is working as an auto mechaninc. you need to go where there is money to survive, so just because a band sells out doesn't mean they didn't not want to. its just a capitalistic society in general and not everyone can afford to fight it.

One of the hardest things to do in life, is to be true to yourself, cuz as you get older, things get harder, and you´re often faced with difficult decisions....some people stick to who they are, even though its tough and some have to sacrifice that part of them for somethin for different reasons...you can never really tell if its about wantin more money or if its cuz of somethin else, without truely knowin the person in question. I have an enormous amount of respect for the bands out there who have been true to their music, but i do also have understandin for those bands who werent able to make it to the top that way.

I agree. It's hard to find a really good rock band now a days! But, Axel DID sell out. The last time I saw him, it looked like he was trying to be a wigger or something.
