Actually, im not very convinced about these mental institutions either....they hardly do any good, in fact they might do worse.....ever since i saw the movie 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest', ive believed in this ideology....but i guess people just have to do it, when they dont have an option

Well now. Sounds like you have some feelings about this issue.
Many years ago, I worked in several institutions that housed those needing mental health assistance and like any other organization or business, there are degrees of effectiveness and professionalism. Indeed there are also different kinds of institutions for various needs, such as an acute adolescent psych unit for teenagers dealing with homelessness, drug abuse, dysfunctional family life, etc; those for autism (which is far more varied in scope than what was represented in "Rainman"), Down's Syndrome, juvenile criminals, and various other people suffering from all kinds of schizophrenia, sociopathies, etc. I personally worked with many who suffered horrendous emotional and physical abuse from family members who were supposed to be protectors against such things. In the course of months (sometimes years), there were many instances of hope sprung from an individual reaching a certain epiphany about their struggles and being able to successfully move on. Sure, there were also failures, but hardworking and dedicated people learn from these set backs as well as celebrate the successes. What area of life is immune from these things?
If you are in need of some answers, instead of spewing an emotional outburst, perhaps a little research (maybe even going to an institution in your area) would help you to gain a little more understanding about what seems to be bothering you.

Well, It's an opinion saying that they are fake. I believe that they will do good for people that really need them. They get put in them Because they need to be in there, and they need a break from the outside world.

what's fake? the institution or person? you sound like you've been in one before is that the reason for this question? if you haven't then you shouldn't speak as if you really know what it is your talking about. institutions are there for a reason. if they didn't help you then that's sad but they do help some.

have you ever thought that institutions are not for helping the institutionalized person...
but institutions are for society> so "we" don't have to interact, see or worry about people in need of mental help.
they (institutions) are a joke, but sadly only a few good people are willing to actually do ALL that it takes to help people in need of mental help.

what does that mean they're fake? I think if people are mentally ill they should be put somewhere where they can actually be helped instead of just locking them up. You sound pretty ignorant.

Usually because if they are up on criminal charges, the term is usually shorter and easier. Once they fell like getting out, they will give the Docs what they want.
