At least not as much. There was a study done where an infant was dressed in boys and then girls clothes (to control for "personality") and then subjects were encouraged to play with them. Regardless of the actual gender, people played differently with the babies depending on the perceived gender. In other words, people were much gentler and more involved with the "girls" whereas they were rougher with the "boys" and let them wander around more.

I've got one of each. For some areas of life, my daughter is much easier to raise--listens better, less reckless, more sociable.

For some areas my son is much easier to raise--more independent (not wandering around, but requires less attention), easier to figure out his needs.

What I am finding parenting these two is that I don't care what anyone says boys and girls are different. And individuals are different and have different needs. Some boys need their moms more than their sisters do. Some boys need more of their parents' attention due to their boldness. Some girls do not appreciate rough and tumble. Some can kick a mean soccer ball.

Sometimes the stereotype comes from the culture's real life experience. The trick is being able to change how you treat a boy or a girl based on what you learn about that particular child. Being willing to wrestle with a girl who gets a kick out of it, and nurturing a little boy who likes to take care of a baby doll.

Boys are easier to raise bc all you do is stick them out in the dog run with the other animals. Throw some "boy chow" out there daily and scoop up the mess once a week. You're done!

People generally feel that boys are easier to raise because they (1) are taught to be independent earlier,
(2) don't have to suffered through their adolescent self-image problems,
(3) have more control over their bodies, (no menstruation, pregnancies, etc.)
(4) don't require affirmation from their peers as much,
(5) don't have to worry about horny boys attacking them.
