A tuneup is the logical place to start here; first I'd inspect the plugs for signs of fouling, etc. and replace them if needed. Also consider cleaning the fuel injectors/fuel delivery system...if nothing else I'd run some fuel system cleaner through your next tank of gas. Also change out the oil & filter, air filter, PCV valve if needed, check the timing, just all the usual maintenance stuff. You should notice a difference.

if its an 03 nissan you should have a timing chain, so I would think you are not having a timing issue. but tune up couldn't hurt!
