It sounds to me that the person is trying to let their spirit live, but the person they are with or speaking to is fighting the chance to let go and let their spirit be free. Just like a child who doesn't want to taste something that their parents are making them drink. They may know that it's good for them, but being stubborn and hard-headed makes them want to fight it. Hope that helps.

The girl in the song paid too much attention to her appearance and suddenly realized that her 'self' is turning to only be her face. She tries to change it by showing her boyfriend (or whoever she talks to) her true self, i.e. her soul, but he refuses to see it because he only likes her look, nothing more. Finally she asks: "Which of us do you love?" meaning: "Do you love my soul or just my face?".

it may mean something different for everyone but to me it seems as though someone is trying hard to offer wisdom and strength to someone who doesnt appreciate it enought to recieve it.
