ankles are a sensitive area, however, the pain is really not that bad with any tattoo. People get it in their mind that it is going to hurt and then it does. If you look at it as a positive experience, you will be fine. Put it where you want it or you will regret it later! Don't pyhsc your self out about it, it will not hurt that bad!! GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS in advance 4 your new tattoo!!

Tattoos hurt more on the areas that do not have any muscles or fat on them. So your ankle would hurt worse than getting a tattoo on your calf muscle or on the small of your back. Some people a tattoo doesn't bother at all no matter where they get it.
I don't really understand about your skin. Fragile? Do you mean sensitive? A tattoo is just a needle plunging into your skin. I don't think it would hurt your skin, you may want to consult a dermatologist first though.

Ok I've got a tattoo just over my ankle and it didn't hurt bad at all. I also have one that circles my ankle bone and goes down the side of my foot. This one hurt like a *itch. The more bone that is in the area the more it is going to hurt. My advice is that if you have any reservations about getting a tattoo, don't do it. Make sure that it is truly something that you want to do.

I got a tattoo on my ankle and it didnt hurt that bad (the parts on bone did) get it just get it a little above or below the ankle and you should be fine. My skin easily gets rashes (i cant use scented soap i have to use plain ol'dial...) but i did just fine with the tattoo. However, everyone is different and there is no way to tell how you would react research it a little more until you are completly comfortable with it! Good Luck in whatever you do!

I think I'll eventually get around to tattooing my ankle to cover up a scar, but you have to remember that, like a diamond, it's forever. Depending on the amount of detail (number of colors, shading, intricate lines, etc) you want and the skill (and speed) of the tattooist, it could be over by the time your endorphines kick in.
Bony areas tend to hurt, but there are also sensitive areas that aren't so bony (the inner arm can be a bad spot, for example). I'd suggest asking your tattooist to do a dry line on the area, but if you chicken out, at least pay him (or her... hey, I've tattooed and I'm female!) a bit for the time and effort of setting up and running the autoclave, getting a "station" ready, and all that good stuff.
A dry line is pretty much the worst of it, though... you get used to the buzzing and it ends up feeling like a bad sunburn the first few days while healing.
My fiancé's most painful spots have been his wrist, inner arm, knee, and sternum (chest). The backs of his hands and knuckles weren't exactly pleasant and I could feel the needle "thunk" against his knuckles while I was trying to do some lettering and coverup work. (So far he doesn't have any tattoos neck or above, back, butt, genital, or foot.)
I've had some problems with tattooing my thigh because I bled quite a bit when trying to do some touch-ups on a fresh (less than 1 month) tattoo. I've managed to tattoo the bottoms of my feet several times and it hasn't been all that painful because I tend to send myself into a near panic attack before I start on myself. I really like that I can have temporary tattoos (they last for about 2 weeks, fading a bit at a time), but I still have a lot to learn before I feel comfortable doing more tattoos on myself. (I'm currently looking for a local apprenticeship since I moved).
By the way, I've seen a few genital tattoos, but they mostly tend to be around the pubic bone. A homosexual male couple I knew, one took it without flinching and the other could hardly hold still.
I've heard that tattooing the ear itself can be very painful, but I don't know from first-hand.

Yes, the ankle does hurt. I have an ankle tattoo and I love it, so it was worth the pain...=) I also have one on the top of the other foot and that one hurt as well. Tattoos tend to hurt more where there isn't a lot of muscle or fat. The two that I have that hurt the least are above my breast...lots of padding there...=) Good luck!

There are many places where tatoos hurt more than others. Places with lots of bone tend to hurt more than places with more fat or muscle. The foot, nape of the neck, spine, and ankle are places where there is a majority of bone. If you have sensitive skin, talk to the tattoo artist and voice your concerns. They may have ideas that can help you get what you want. Hope this helps!!

Yes, it is going to hurt. Any area with thin skin is going to hurt. To me, it is worth it, I have 15 tattoos, but the ones in areas of more flesh hurt less. I do have one in my "private area" and it didn't hurt at all. I actually fell asleep when it was being done! You may consider maybe not the ankle but just a bit higher up on your calf area, that hurts less.

It hurts about like a bee sting. On the ankle people say it hurts more because you can feel the bone vibrate from the needle. I have one on my back and it hurt like hell. The pain IS tolerable (moreso than a headache or a toothache.) If a tattoo is what you want- then go for it! (Even weenies get them just fine.) Best of luck!

You understand what a tattoo is, right? Needles repeatedly going into your skin, so yes honey, it hurts. Anywear boney hurts, I have one on my spine and one on my thigh, the one on my back hurt more getting, the one on my leg hurt worse after.
I asked a tattooist about getting one on my foot, he didn't reccomend it, he said the skin on the feet is very thin, and doesn't hold the ink very well, and he'd never seen one older than a year that looked any good. If your skin on your ankle is also thin, it may wear away easily. Ask a tattooist, they have the best idea.
