Just to verify, you can do this by setting up a wireless adapter in each machine. Set the wireless adapters to adhoc mode, manualy assign each an IP address and subnet mask that puts them in the same subnet. (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 with 255.255.255.0 would work), set both to use the same ssid and wpa encrytion codes. Now just setup the network with microsoft networking using the same workgroup name, enabling file and print sharing.

Setting up a small wireless network will solve your problem. I recently set one up for myself and now have two desktops I can use and a laptop I can carry onto by deck and work outdoors. Check products from Linksys. You'll need a wireless router and one wireless adapter for each additional PC.

If you need a network but haven't any LAN or web for communication you can use hyper terminal(if you have windows it's in your:programs\Accessories\communications\Hyper Terminal). And if you need a no wire network you must have wireless network equipment.
