in star wars #6 there was the emperor. the guy luke dumped down the pit.
in the new ones. #2/3 does this emperor exist? is the the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine? Count Dooku? neither?

Yes, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Darth Sidious, and The Emperor were one in the same. However, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, in episode II and III, was only a facade to keep the Jedi council off balance during their pursuit of the Sith. The true nature of Palpatine was Darth Sidious, his Sith title.
Count Dooku, aka Darth Tyranus, was Palpatine's apprentice like Darth Maul in episode I and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader afterward. As you remember at the beginning of episode III, Count Dooku was executed by Anakin Skywalker with a some encouragement from the manipulative Palpatine.
Palpatine's proclamation of a new Galactic empire at the end of episode III transformed his status from Supreme Chancellor to Emperor. Emperor Palpatine was to later to meet his end at the hands of his apprentice, Darth Vader, in episode VI.

Vader was the the one tossed Emperor Palpatine down the shaft. The same Palpatine was the one who became Supreme Chancellor at the end The Phantom Menace. Count Dooku was just a pawn on Palpatine's way to becoming emperor.

Darth Sidious is Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine. And yes he was in episode 2 and 3 of Star Wars aswell. :)

Chancellor Palpatine from the new ones was the same old emperor guy in #6. He got all wrinkly from his battle with MAce Windu.
