You shouldn't be going to this doctor if you think he's an a*hole.
There are women who have had UTIs in late pregnancy, sometimes they cause labor, or can cause a kidney infection.
Either way, visit the prescribing pharmacy and ask the pharmacist (NOT one of the techs, ideally the pharmacist whose initials are on your prescription). Then THEY can call the doctor back for you and tell him it's unsafe for you and suggest another safer alternative.

Ohhh, that does sound like a potential problem...especially since you could go into labor any minute (I went into labor 15 days early). Maybe call a pediatrician and ask about it in regards to breastfeeding. Does your doc have a partner that can answer your question? Maybe call your doc's nurse and ask her to look up the FDA pregnancy category it goes into...A=very safe, B=rather safe, C=somewhat safe or not enough studies done to be sure what category it should definitively go into...use only if needed, D=unsafe, and on to worse and worse categories. Only use if it is in A, B, or C categories. If you find out that it is in a bad category then you are informed and have solid grounds to question you Dr and request a new prescription even if he is a jerk.

OMG yes. With my son I had a constant UTI from 24 weeks till 3 weeks postpartem! It was horrible! Ask your doctor about taking it. Alot of medicines state they are not to take when pregnant so ask the doc. Also take care of that UTI before having the baby if possible. With mine I was about to be on anti biotocs for like the hundredth time but went into labor and after having the baby it hurt so bad to pee I was like in tears. The UTI had gotton alot worse along with the pain and swelling of a vaginal delivery.

Trust your own judgement...I would go back and talk to the pharmacist first--they can be quite helpful. Definately do not take anything that will show up in your milk, as you could deliver any day and don't want to have to start out with a bottle and then deal with trying to get your newborn to switch to the breast once you're in the clear. There are things you can do other than taking OTC meds, like drinking cranberry juice(low sugar) to acidify your urine. If you're having issues with your doc, call the county health clinic and ask to speak to an OB doctor about your problem...it's their job to help the public, and they're generally very willing to be of service. Good Luck!

I was given Kaflex for my UTI. I would call the doctor's office and let them know that the pharmacist told you not to take it and show them the paperwork. I also found my book called "The Women's Pharmacy and it too, states that this should not be taken in late pregnancy or while breastfeeding! Your doctor sounds like a quack!

Go to your phamacist 1st. Ask him if there are any "safer, yet just as effective" antibiotics you can take during this stage of your pregnancy. Once you get a list of a couple of meds call your Dr. back and tell him you would feel much better taking something without this type of warning label. It's your body, your baby and you are paying the bill!
By the way, I had a new OB-GYN with my 3rd baby and I could not stand him. I changed Drs. right away.

I had a bladder infection 7 months into my 3rd pregnancy. I can't remember what they put me on, but when I went to the dr for the pain, I was 4cm dialated. The dr said that any kind of infection can send you into early labor. You should go back to the pharmacist and tell him that upon reading the pamphlet, you don't think this medication is safe for you. Explain your relationship with the dr and perhaps the pharmacist can call the dr's office for you and tell them that this medication they prescribed isn't safe for you to take. But you definitly need to take something.

I am an OB nurse and I see TONS of pregnant women get UTI's and they ALL are prescribed Macrobid 100MG twice daily. If you can't talk to your doc, call the ob floor where you will be having your baby, or call your pharmacy. They'll be able to answer your questions.

Kind of late to be considering your Doctor a hole isn't it? If he was so bad why didn't you change doctors earlier on in your pregnancy? Sorry to tell you but you'll have to take this question to the doctor because only the doctor can explain to you why he/she prescribed it in your condition.
