Last week, I was walking on a parking lot, and this senior just abrruptly wnet on reverse and almost ran me over; I had to jump on the trunk of the car for me not to get run over. My uncle is 70, he got into 5 accidents on the same year, my aunt couldn't get him to stop driving, and now he got into a major accident and is hospitalized. I have a friend who almost got into West Point, he was super fit, but one day he was driving and hit a red light, with plently of time he stopped, but the senior citizen behind him didn't, crash him, my friend hurt his back, he can't do run or do the things he did without his back hurting, and he couldn't get into West Point.

These people are dangerous, why are they being allowed to drive?

The law is slow to catch up with reality. a generation ago, we didn't have to worry about this problem, but elders are living longer. Some states are moving to having annual driving tests after a certain age, but that whole aarp lobby is probably fighting that. Meanwhile, we all get to live in fear or get run over at farmers markets.

Transportation is the key here, the lack of public transportation in some areas. Seniors have the right to drive like anyone else. Think of your self when you get to be that age. Right now you probably would say you wouldn't drive when you get older but, if there;s no way to get to where you need to go then sometimes you have no choice. The same case can be stated for all drivers, there are those that can't and then there are those that think they're all that on the road. Sometimes everyone has rights. In this case so do our seniors. We're all going to be there one day, keep that in mind and always look out for the other guy. Rule of thumb.

When you reach the age of being a senior citizen, you can set an example by exchanging your driver's license for an ID card, selling the car, and begin (1) using public transportation, (2) walking, or (3) have people drive you to places.

But remember: No fair if you get to that age and then say you say you didn't mean yourself to be included in the age cut-off idea. You have to do it, no matter what.

Only in america, because we have down right ugly transportation, or none at all in most area's, Europe does not have that problem, neither does places like Thailand, but in american they can't shop or get to the doctor etc. A prime example my uncle is 90, plays golf, exercises every day in great shap, except he is almost blind, California would not re-new his license, I said what are you going to do, he said I have to drive, license or no license, besides I can still see people and cars, HELP, definately an accident waiting to happen, glad I don't live near him!!!

I dont know but maybe we should invest a little on public transportation/infrastructure so that we can get more people taking the train/bus rather than driving. Not only the roads would be safer but more pleasant ( less traffic congestion, less pollution, less noise...)

Senior citizens are still driving because no one told them they couldn't. I think once a person is over 65 they should take a driving test yearly.

You have a good point there... Some of them are in denial and they do not want to depend on anyone to get them from here to there.

They should get check ups as often as possible to make sure that they are able to drive.

So, all senior citizen drivers are dangerous because of one or two of them? You're gonna be there one day, and these people earned their driving priveleges before you were even a sperm in your old man's sack.

Not all of them are not like that . Just like not all teen drivers are bad . Stereo typing isn't the answer. Remember God willing you will be old someday. What goes around comes around.
