Most people dont condone suicide because all moods/emotions are cyclical. Suffering generally comes and goes with what is happening at the TIME. Ending your life instead of waiting for change or changing it yourself (via life change/counselling) leaves others wondering why...guilt/pain/hurt/anger/sorrow.
The ones that dont care (often the ones that caused the suffering), will not be bothered by a suiciders demise..they will be glad as they no longer fear retribution. The ones that do love you will carry that suiciders burden for the rest of their lives. So you'd be targeting the wrong audience.
Negative emotions CAN be fixed. Death cannot be. The only time I would condone suicide if one already had a terminal illness like cancer where the meds were no longer working to ease the pain....and that is euthanasia...not suicide in my book. Dying before you need to is just silly.....as it will come eventually to ALL of us. Why pike out when so many millions of folks would have given anything to live as long as they could? Tsunamis, wars, prisoners of war, accidents, hurricanes, 9/11...the struggle is right before us....the bravery/fight etc to stay alive and someone WANTS to end their life because they had PMS, lost a leg or failed a few exams or had a crappy childhood? Pleeease.......perspective here.
Life is about the SELF...and how much you feel. If you DO suffer...you DO care...about how you feel and how others percieve you. If you had no empathy (to see from anothers point of view)....you wouldnt care and wouldnt be asking this question.
Depression is a brain wiring blip and sucks.......and so finding a way out of it can be hard but...if that takes meds or getting out of an uncomfortable situation or addiction...then one should fight to have some joy/fun and peace again. What is so good about dying? Blank, nothing, nada......not even TV to keep you mildly entertained.

I have a book (a novel, really) that puts forth the idea that folks should have a button that they can use when they are just done. It's a one time use, get out of life quick button and pressing it means restart and the soul returns home.
I think it's a facsinating idea. I wonder if the suicide rate would go down with such a device? Currently people attempt to commit suicide - some with the intention of getting more attention. A button like this would stop that, right? I mean you wanna stay or you wanna go, it's as simple as that.
Of course, in the beginning at least there would probably be more people going on the spur of the moment - due to depression, what have you - but I think that would stop and it would only be used as a real tool for the elderly and infirm, and an option for those who need to reset and are just killing themselves slowly over the years with self destructive behavior.
Granted, the people in the story were talking about people who lived a lot longer than we do now. It also doesn't really address folks who fall into despair or depression as a side affect of medication or any number of things that we have deal with in real life, but it is an interesting idea. I think so, anyway - don't you?
Peace!

Most people have funtunately not gone thru suymptoms that are not compatavle with live; exptreme pain that cannot be sontrolled, a progressive disease with no curse; overwhelming problems. Having not been there, it is partially fro friends and family. Hove realizw you impose a great emotional and finanacial burden
No, is its usually justified but there are problems and diseaseas that a peaceful death is warrently. For the same reason people are permitted to limit extrodinary medical treatment to prolong life. Our seciety, partially driven by religious doctrine, does not understand.
We would not allow our pets to suffer needlessly, All diseases cannot be cured, and all pain cannt be stopped.

Concerned about friends and families feelings? I can't believe you said that. What do you think would happen if a person committed suicide? Do you think they would toss and party and get drunk and celebrate? I don't think so. They would blame themselves, mourn and never get over it. People who commit suicide are weaklings and have no thought for the feelings of other people. Sorry, that's the way I see it. And, as an added note, no problem you have can possibly be solved AFTER you are dead and no pain healed either.

because suicide is not the answer. whatever the problem is it can be fixed and the pain will go away. It is selfish to think only of yourself. it's hard not to when your in pain but just because your gone doesn't mean all your problems are gone. what about the family? when a person kills themselves it hurts alot of people. i know this because i have been there on both sides.

because you cant see outside of your despair. I've felt down enough to think about it,but know that it is selfish. If my life sucks that bad I'm not going to lay down and die...I'm going to fight to make it the way I want it..Its my life. I've found that moving will sometimes help...if the people around you are hurting you or getting you down..a new outlook will do all the difference.First you have to decide...if your miserable do you want to wallow in it...or do something about it. Depression can make you feel unworthy and not strong enough to fight, but if you really want to feel better-see someone, get on meds. Dont let the jerks around you, rule your world-make it the way you want it and fight!

It's against most religions and, too, a person feels like there was something more that could have been done in saving a life.
