I've always had perfectly regular periods before and while I was on birth control (for about 3 yrs). I stopped birth control last month. My period was due 3 days ago, and has not come. I took a home pregnancy test 3 days ago, which turned out negative, and I went for a pregnancy blood test yesterday and I'm waiting on the results. The brown spotting just started this morning, and is making me worried. Could I be pregnant, and if not, what is this brown discharge? Is it withdrawal bleeding (if so, does it mean I'm not pregnant since it is considered a period?) Thanks

It could be implantation bleeding, or just your body going back to it's normal menstrual cycle. If you have no other symptoms of pregnancy, like sore breasts or being tired, then I wouldn't worry. It was smart to get a blood test though. It will tell for sure.

I was on birth control pills for 17 years. During that time I skipped a couple of periods. After going off it, my periods where regular - just a few days later than when I was on the pill. They were also lighter for a few months too, but then gradually got heavier.

Things get screwed up like crazy when you go off the pill - I had strange periods for about 5 months after I stopped taking it, including brown discharge - which is actually just blood that's been exposed to oxygen. Your next few months could include having no period at all, having a super long or short period, lots of cramps, no cramps, spotting etc.

*sigh*

It's lots of fun. I'm still glad I went off the pill, though.

The discharge is your period, blood gets dicolored as it dies or dries up, ever notice a blood stain that sets into something, it turns to a brownish color. Keep in mind, you have had that pill in your system for a while and your hormones are getting back to the norm.

The brown discharge is probly your period. Maybe because of the sudden stop of birth control made it lighter.
