You have a carbon canister under the front wing if this is not purging correctly you will get a petrol smell. Its part of your emission control system. You could of course as others have indicated have a leak in your fuel line.Either way it needs looking at NOW.Regards Mick /PS you dont have a carburetter never fitted to Vectra.

It means that you have a gas leak somewhere and you better find it fast. Once you find it it will probably be fairly cheap to fix. You will have to do some detective work. Try opening the hood with the engine cold. Start it up and let it idle. Carefully look around the engine compartment along the firewall and on top of the engine around the carburator. A small flashlight will help. Look and smell everywhere very carefully. If you find a wet spot, wipe it with a rag and smell the rag for gasoline. Wait a minute and see if the wet spot comes back. When you find the leak, point it out to a mechanic. Get it fixed right away...!!

Possibly a leak from the fuel line to the Carburetta.
Check all hoses, if not then check Carburetta to Manifold Gaskets.
Check Fuel Tank for leakage also.
Maybe not a Vent Pipe but check the brether pipes around the Engine.
But if you cannot find the source, seek professional advice as the last thing you need is for it to burst into flames when you are travelling down the Motorway at 80mph.

Do you get the same smell outside of the car when you stop?
Could be a petrol leak .. this is WELL worth investigating because not only will it cost you in lost money .. the fire hazard .. well need I say more.
I had this recently in a different vehicle because a stone had flipped up and holed my petrol tank.

Sounds like a leak, the smell gets sucked in through the vents.
Can you smell it more outside the car.
Check the fuel tank and pipes for leaks.
Have a look/smell under the bonnet.

Do you have an open can of petrol inside the car with you?
If so that would cause a smell!
