I've always had perfectly regular periods before and while I was on birth control (for about 3 yrs). I stopped birth control last month. My period was due 3 days ago, and has not come. I took a home pregnancy test 3 days ago, which turned out negative, and I went for a pregnancy blood test yesterday and I'm waiting on the results. The brown spotting just started this morning, and is making me worried. Could I be pregnant, and if not, what is this brown discharge? Is it withdrawal bleeding (if so, does it mean I'm not pregnant since it is considered a period?) Thanks

I should have mentioned that the only time I could have gotten pregnant is 2 1/2 weeks ago, so I think it may be too late for implantation bleeding (I think).

When I went off my birth control pills I had the EXACT same thing happen.
I got the brown spotting for about 2 days, then my period.
Also, the period was really bad.
Once I started to actually bleed, it was really bad, and the cramps and stuff were horrible.
I called my doc to see if this was normal. She said that everyone's body reacts differently, but it's not unusual to have a heavy period the first time after you stop birth control.
You body has to readjust its hormones and such.

The brown discharge could be inplantation bleeding. For some it will happen before the missed period, but for others it happens when the period is due, which is why alot of women miss being pregnant becaue they think the implantation bleeding is their period. Just try and relax until they get your blood work back.

I don't think you are pregnant... I think it is your body's way of coming off the pill. You will probably get a normal period next month, or the brown discharge will turn into a normal period since it just started today, you will have to wait and see!

Thats exactly what happened to me. I had brown spotting for 7 days and then I found out I was pregnant. Sounds like implantation.

I think this brown discharge will last a day or two then your normal period will begin, I don't think you're preganant. I had a pink discharge for about 3 days and that's how I knew i was pregnant.

that brown discharge is old blood. if it was implantation bleeding it would be light red. at least that is the way it was for me
i bet you get your period in the next couple of days.
and besides you aleady had the blood test, when you get the results you will be able to have peace of mind. good luck.

it sounds to me like the hormones from the birth control have upset your balance of hormones. sometimes it takes a long while to return to normal after taking birth control. i personally dont think that you are pregnant. did you give the doctor all of this info? have you had any other symptoms of pregnancy? usually nausea, and sore breasts are common signs.

good luck!

Don't worry, it can take a while for your cycle to get back to normal after going off the pill. You may just be having an irregular cycle for a couple of months, then it will probably go back to normal.
