it is not theory, as you approach the speed of light the relativistic time slows down. this has already been observed. further, travelling in the direction opposite earth's rotation doesn't make a difference. it's all about speed... the faster you go towards the speed of light, the slower time gets until at the speed of light *poof* time would stop.

Einstein had many wonderful theories that are just now being "proven"... one of them was the fact that one object moving faster and further away from one another actually does slow down in the "eyes" of the other. This is all based upon the speed of each object. Scientist have proven that the astronauts in space do age less than those of us still on earth.
(quote)
"The amount of the slowing down is given by this formula. t prime is the astronaut’s time, and t is the mission controller’s time. v is the speed of the craft, and c the speed of light.
From this we see that if v is about 9/10ths of c, the expression under the square root sign is 0.25, which means t prime is 0.5 t. So, at 9/10ths the speed of light, time slows down to half of what it is for the mission controller."

They said you must travel around the earth (or anywhere for that matter) near the speed of light to slow your time down relative to the time on earth. I really can't understand it myself, but it's a well-established THEORY.
They said that this certain man who stayed the longest at MIR (or was it the ISS already??) for 13 months (??) is about 53 seconds younger.

NO, of course there is no way of altering the speed that time takes,
it takes it's own sweet time. (hey, I just made a pun)
Anyway, all one can do is to alter the PERCEPTION of time.
That is, you can watch the hands on a clock tick away 10 minutes
and it will seem like an hour.
OR, you can go and call someone you love for ten minutes and it will seem as if only one minute went by.

Physical time is the basis for all existence in our universe. It depends upon the speed of individual objects as to what their relationship to the speed of light is. Because all matter is formed of electromagnetic energy, everything in our universe relates to the value of "c"

I have found the best way to slow down time is to attend one of my division's staff meetings. I'm pretty sure 90 minutes turns into 8 hours...8 long hours
