The most recent is when Anakin (Darth Vader) is younger which is Episodes 1, 2, and 3. When he is older they are Episodes 4,5,6 which was made back in the 70's.
I would advise you to watch 4,5,6 then 1,2,3. It makes more sense to you that way.

there are 6 out in theatres. there is supposed to be 9 but i doubt george lucas will ever get to the last 3. there is also a book series.
