1. Helps you appreciate how fortunate you are and that things could be worse. This contributes to your happiness.
2. Learn how they got that way and if they took any action to make them less fortunate. This helps you protect from making the same mistakes as they.
3. Helps you understand what you have and what they need and if they have the ability to take those things from you. This helps you set expectations on how certain people will act and thus allows you to protect from crime or allows you to contribute effectively to them.
It is also good to learn about those who are MORE fortunate than you too!

see, we have 2 be considerate humans. we,hate to study,whereas a few crave to! we should not think that the world is ours and waste its resources. we think money grows from trees but, after being in the misfortune ones shoes for a day, we could learn to be a bit wiser and be a miser at spending money. okay not a miser,but with reason and seldom.
