I don't see how people(amanda)can say stop living in the past. For us people on the Gulf Coast it is not the past, it's our present. It was and still is hard to even fathom the devastation and wrecked lives caused by hurricane Katrina. I live on the MS gulf coast, we were hit hard but it wasn't until watching recent reports on New Orleans that I fully saw what went on there and I don't know how any of us will ever forget what we went through. So yes, we are looking forward to the future but we're not ever going to forget the past! I still feel the effects almost everyday. Whether it be businesses that aren't here anymore, people that aren't here anymore, or just driving around in certain parts of town. I watched a show last night about volunteers after the storm and think they did an excellent job. They fed my daughter and I a few times and we were very grateful.

I think were still going through the pain I cannot even begin to imagine how it felt to be a victim of such a horrible disater. A year later there is progress but a lot of people still don't have homes and that's really sad. It still saddens me to see that people are still left without so much. Losing loved ones and losing a city that will never be quite the same. A piece of America was torn apart that day but I hope one day in the near future that city will become one again. I get worried about Ernesto now I really hope it doesn't do crazy damage but I can only hope and prey that it won't.

so I'm deleting my answer cause this asker has decided to e-mail me with this remark:did you forget that people lost their lives in this hurricane and you're talking about stop living in the past. I wonder how it would feel if you had to sleep on the top of your house for hours with no food or water. And there was a big possibility that you could die? How would you feel dammit/ Tell me...you know i pray for people like you who have no sympathy whatsoever. I pray that you would understand one day when you loose a loved one or if something really bad happens to you. When it does you think of the comment you wrote

I think the pain would be different... now you won't feel pain AND be wet at the same time... last year you were wet and felt pain. See, the glass is 1/2 FULL damn it.

Terrible and traumatic. Storms are very scary. Imagine looking out your window to see the ocean instead of your back yard.

I hope Ernesto does not wreak any more havoc on those areas. I have been there and there has been very little reconstruction.
