There is currently a chemical laser for missle defense. It is designed to use a hot point of light energy to pierce the outer layer of a missle's fuel tank/warhead forcing it to prematurely detonate.

Well there are a large number of uses of LASER in defence. As you very well know that LASER stands for Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. This means that light can be made to amlpify by making sure that the photons are in the excited state, in other words have more energy when the light is being emitted , and the result is so that the light becomes monochromatic and thus is a single beam with high energy that casn be used to destroy a particular target, I'm sure states like USA and Britain employ LASERs in their air-craft carriers and land weapons.

there are now lasers capable of targeting incoming missiles using radar and destroying them using a laser beam, however they are the size of a large house
