yes, his technique is good, but the gruesome topics and details creep me out. I prefer reading stories with happy endings and not gruesome endings. its just a matter of opinion and preference.

Some of the "topics" are dark! Yes indeed. You have to look past the topics to see the genius/madness. Take this example please and look for the sorrow he has after his wifes passing:
Annabel Lee
by Edgar Allan Poe, 1849
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Sounds to me like you may have some homework that you don't want to do... :-))

Poe's writings came from a brilliant and tortured mind. His short life (he died at the age of 40), by most peoples standards, was filled with heavy struggles and tragedies.
My opinion: As a writer Poe was, in short, --- a master.

I like Poe. Yes some of his tales are gruesome but from what I've read about him, he was a very tortured individual so that's what he wrote about.
The Raven and The Telltale Heart are just some of my favorites.

My prominent Poe short tale is The Pit and the Pendulum, because of the fact it develop into thrilling to be how human beings react while they could actually do no longer something yet look ahead to dying, and how desire is often there, even interior the face of dad Time, or the bleak reaper. "and then there stole into my fancy, like a rich musical be conscious, the seen what candy relax there could desire to be interior the grave." I additionally reallllly enjoyed The tell-tale coronary heart, it entertained me to no end. The previous guy and his weird and wonderful eye form of creeped me out, however the way the murderer have been given the previous guy to have faith him involved me. Quote: "i develop into never kinder to the previous guy than throughout the completed week earlier I killed him." How ironic. My prominent poem of his is The Raven, and that i fairly enjoyed, The mask of the purple dying besides, alongside with the autumn of the domicile of Usher. I observed Usher finished in a play while i develop into in grade college, which began my interest in Mr. Poe. My prominent quote of his era is "confident myself, I seek for to no longer convince," from Berniece.

I think not..
What makes him such a "disgusting" writer..? Because he gets rather graphic in detail or something?? There are plenty of writers that get EXTREMELY graphic in their books/novels..
Poe is a great writer, I love his work..

What got a hair out of place in your world? E.A. Poe was way ahead of his time. I think you have to do a report on him and are just complaining because you are one of those people who put down the Da Vinci Code because:1) You didn't understand it.2)You are a follower.3)You are an idiot.
