Your IP address cannot be exactly the same as your default gateway. If you manually change it, make sure the last digit is different. Here is how:

1. Start/Control Panel/Network Connections

2. Double-click your wireless connection ICON

3. click on the "properties tab"

4. Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (tcp/ip)" and click to select.

5. Click on "properties" and then click the "use the following address" button.

6. Enter the name of your default gateway, use "255.255.0.0" as subnet mask, and then give yourself an IP address similar to your gateway, but with the last digit different.

Save and reboot.

Your IP and Default Gateway address are supposed to be different. It sounds like your wireless connection isn't setup to autoconfigure, check you network settings and make sure everthing is set to auto. You might also check your router and make sure it's setup to give all info automatically. Contact me if you need more help.

Is this connection your own or someone else's? If it is someone else, ask before you connect. The connection might be secured and you would need the password to get on. If it is yours, it could be secured and you will need the password you set in the router to get on.
