76 - 5% = 72.2

Ball is $80 - 5% = $76
After 1st discount is $76 - 5% = $72.20
After 2nd discound is $72.20
Plus Tax $72.20 + 14% (in canada) = $82.31 (haha) :)

5% of $80 is $76 and then 5% of $76 is $3.80 so the total selling price is $72.20

$80*0.95 = $76
the reason you multiply with 0.95 is because it is what is left of 0.05 or 5%. So after the 1st discount what will be left will be $76.
$76*0.95= $72.20
Doing the math with what is left with you is easier (less work) than doing it by deducting 5% price from $80 then doing it again.
