I am one mother, with both children; I did smoke. When I was 7.5 months along with my daughter when I stopped smoking and I was sick for two days. However, the ultrasound technician had no doubt in her mind about the health of the baby. When I gave birth, She weighed 7 pounds and 14.1 ounces and was 20 inches long. My second has not yet been born, however, I am in my eighth month and I stopped smoking when I was five months along. Not so bad with being sick, but I have been told by the same ultrasound technician that the baby is a little small. I will not say it's because I quit smoking, but I think if I had the same appettite that the baby might be a little bigger. In my opinion, smoking does not hurt the baby. The only things I believe you should worry about are the tox screens at the hospital when you give birth because CPS is cracking down on "drug-headed mothers" and when you hold your breath to smoke, you are slightly depriving the baby of that oxygen. But when you are in your third trimester, it's hard to even yawn much less hold your breath. From experience, I quit smoking simply because I don't want to risk my child being taken away. My husband feels the same. We have a friend who gave birth to two beautifully healthy girls and she herself was a crack-head.Good luck and don't let any of the other responses get you down.

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was already 2 months along. I had gone to LA for a concert...smoked a lot of cigarettes and pot and did shrooms! Once I found out I was pregnant I was SO scared that it harmed my baby and I immediately regretted it!
The effects of smoking pot while pregnant are low birth weight, premature labor, problems learning (They learn slower than other kids) and possibly asthma. Also, I've heard it can cause Down Syndrome. It causes miscarriage too. They say that for those effects to happen, the mother has to smoke at least once a month throughout her pregnancy or more.
I have a friend that smoked throughout her pregnancy. She was only 15 when she got pregnant. He baby is now three, almost 4, and he can't even talk yet! He also has asthma really bad too.
I quit the moment I found out, and so far everything is going good for me in my pregnancy. I suggest if you are pregnant and already did smoke, STOP! You don't want anything to happen to your baby right? I know it might be difficult to stop, but let me tell you, it will be well worth it!
I'm not sure if you are pregnant or not, but if you are congrats and good luck!

There is a higher occurance of low birth weight and preemies. Premature birth means the baby is not fully developed, so it can have trouble breathing and also can suffer neurologically. My niece was regularly exposed to pot while her Mom was pregnant with her, she was born premature and was so thin. She looked like a baby bird, big eyes, thin skin. Had to grow into it all. She also had kidney problems and now has asthma. Also, if you test positive for drugs in a tox. screen at the hospital that they do when they take your blood, CPS will take temporary custody of your baby.
One thing you can do for your baby is give it a good start by being as healthy as you can be. They did not ask to come into the world, so just give them the chance at a good start and lay off the drugs, smokes, alcohol. You will be glad you did when you meet that perfect little being.

well, I smoked it before I knew that I was pregnant, and before anyone starts screaming at me, for getting preggo without planning, I had been using Depo-Provera for 2 yrs, when I got pregnant, so I felt I was protected....I did stop smoking pot and drinking as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and still don't touch the stuff, 6 years and another baby later....my son is fine, he is almost 7 years old, and in the Gifted and Talented program at school, so it didn't harm him, however you should not being taking any risks while pregnant, you have to think about that little life growing inside, and I was lucky that it didn't harm him, I had been doing that stuff right at the most crucial time for development....I was scared and guilty through the whole pregnancy, and even told my MD what I had done, to be sure they watched his development closely...good luck to you, and just stay away from the stuff, you are a mom now, no time for kid stuff anymore

I have never used any unauthorized drugs (Tylenol, ibuprofen--OK) during my pregnancies. It can affect your baby's life forever for just a few minutes of a "high". Please do not do this. Your new little baby is forming and all the chemicals in pot can not help him/her form correctly. I was worried about the drugs I tried when I was in college and how they could effect the eggs that were in my body when I used them years before I even got pregnant...I never wanted to add any additional risk.

Marijuana is not approved by the FDA and there are big differences from one bud to the next. I wouldn't risk smoking anything or drinking while pregnant. It's just not worth the risk. I don't think too highly (no pun intended LOL) of people who go out and party like that when they're parents. It's time to grow up and move on.

The American Pregancy Association (sounds like a pretty reliable source to me) says that smoking pot while pregant reduces the oxygen supply to the baby and increases the risk of miscarriage, low birth-weight, premature births, developmental delays, and behavioral and learning problems.
It also says that studies have been inconclusive, likely due to the use of alcohol and tobacco along with pot.
It sounds like too large a gamble for a small thrill, considering it could cost the life of your child.

why would you want to endanger your baby?! Smoking anything is out of the question. Drinking isn't an option either. Why did you decide to have a baby if you were going to do this? And yes, it would affect your baby in so many bad ways. Developmentally and physically. You really need to speak to your doctor and ask this stuff.

Of course it will hurt the baby, and could quite badly. How could you do this to your child? I can't believe that you even found one study that said it wouldn't - must not be an authentic medical study, peer-reviewed and in an authorized medical journal. What are you thinking? You shouldn't be having a baby..... if you don't radically change your thinking and habits.
