definatly stock up on diapers, not to much in one size, get at least 1 package of newborns then a few of the size ones. Another must is a swing,I can't tell you how many times that was a blessing.Don't go hog wild on clothes your baby will grow faster than you think, i would start out with some of those sleeping gowns that are like sleepers but stay open at the bottom for easy access. Also at least 10 bottles shouls work if your not breastfeeding,a carseat(infant one) about 5 recieving blankets and lots of burp cloths.and a baby bathtub. CONGRATS MOMMY!

I suggest buying some cloth diapers. Not to use as a diaper but they make great towels to throw over your shoulder while burping. They can be washed and they are softer and more absorbant than burping blankets.
Buy the night shirts that have no legs but a drawstring at the bottom.

The baby won't like his legs confined in pants but will need to stay warm. Don't let them sleep with a hat.
Start buying diapers so you'll have them. Try all the different brands. We found that the cheap ones were as good if not better than the expensive name brand ones.
Good Luck.

Well if you register for a baby shower at specialty stores like BabiesRus they will give you a big list of things that you need--so that will help with odds and ends. You're going to need a lot of diapers in the beginning. I love pampers, but in the beginning when you're changing 20+ diapers a day the store brand ones will do fine. I also loved the Carter's layette gowns for nighttime....they were a lot easier to change diapers in than snap-up jammies.

But don't worry too much. If you need something you don't have you will know it! And friends and family are usually more than eager to help out in the beginning. Congratulations and good luck.

Make sure you stock up on diapers, newborns have A LOT of bowel movements.
Get those little gloves for the baby's hands too so it doesn't scratch it's face.
The Nurses make sure you properly use a car seat before you leave the hospital, so make sure you have one and understand how to use it.
New borns mostly need socks onsies and blankets to keep them bundled up in.
I never bought my children pacifiers and they never used them, they aren't a big deal unless you get your child hooked.
Don't forget your baby bath tub thingy, when they are newborn's it's easier to just lay them on one and wipe them down with damp towels.
Alcohol and Q-tips for the imbilocol cord.
Soft cloths to wash the baby with.
Remember the back of baby ears get build up easy because the milk sometimes drips back their so make sure to keep a soft cloth around to clean that up.
Booger suckers are a must and baby nail clippers.
Spit rags too.

DIAPERS, DIAPERS, AND MORE DIAPERS!!!!!!! and of course the general things like formula, bottles, bibs, a crib, soft blankets, stroller with car seat, a baby bath, desitin, alot of onesies, baby gloves while the baby's a newborn, etc... ohhhh they NEED SOOO MUCH!!! Yes the little clothes are cute, but they grow right out of them... its a waste to spend a lot of money on alot of cute baby clothes... you will want to keep that money for all the other things you need for baby... Congratulations and Good Luck

first I would go to a library and check out book and educate yourself as much as you can about being pregnant, labor and the rest that follows.

you need a car seat
stroller
crib
bassinet or co sleeper
diapers
wipes
washcloths
baby tub
baby soap and shampoo
baby finger nail clippers
changing table and changing pad

If you re going to have a baby shower, I wouldn't worry about buying to much clothes. with our first from one end of our sons closet to the other end was jammed packed of new clothes for him, it was toooooooo much.
Baby thermometer
Bibs
like I said buy a book or look on line
good luck

Through the course of your pregnancy (if in the UK - other places must do something the same ish) you will get loads of information to read through on what basics to get. Go into one of your local Baby shops (Mothercare, Boots, Babies R Us) and most of these stores have lists available at the back of their catalogues with what you'll need to get for the baby, you, the labour, sleeping, bathing etc.....I would list them for you but theres too much to mention. Good luck with it all.

try searching for online resources about babies

BUT you'll need diapers, bottles, pacifiers, clothes, teething rings, a crib, and cleaning supplies. Those are the things you really NEED, anything else are extras. See if you can find a mommy group through your doctor, and ask some women who have been there before you! You might even find some mommy swaps or yard sales where you can find things for cheaper prices.
