Why are brainy people always depicted with glasses. (and yes, I am extremely nearsighted and considered rather intelligent)

Smart people are wise enough to get their eyes examined.

It's a stereotype.

I used to have a friend that was dumb as a bag of hammers, but eschewed contacts in favor of glasses because, in his mind, at least, girls would see him as an intellectual. Fact is, he was a near-sighted Neanderthal.

Having said all that, I wear glasses, and used both "eschewed" and "Neanderthal" in the same answer, which has to be a relative rarity on Yahoo Answers.

i think the first choice is a more accurate sentence.
Besides, there are tons of poor eyesight people, characterized that way to show they dumb.
By the way i have a wonderful vision :), and i consider myself enough smart :)

im super blind and i am not super smart.... maybe smarter people are too much into their studies to get contacts and.... and like me... i care too much about what i look like and not enough on my studies? buuuuuut if smart people are soooo smart then they would know that driving with contacts is a lot better and safer than driving with glasses... cause you cant see out the corner of your eye.... hmmmm

Neither is accurate, but simply an intellectual exercise of pretending to be aware of life.
