I use the tablets. It is alot kinder to babies bottles and teething rings, etc. If you are using a breast pump then this method is best.

You are gettin some silly answers. I assume by microwave you mean the sterilisers that you put in the microwave once they are covered with water added meaning they use steam to clean the bottles?

You aren't actually microwaving the bottles, using the heat to make the water boil and the steam does it.

I used the avent microwave one as kitchen worktop space was an issue and I didn't want to be looking at a bulky steriliser all the time, they take 5 mins and are very effecitve. I know the big ones take longer.

One word of advice though - measure your microwave cos some are to small for the sterilisers!

Good luck!

I have no idea about microwave sterilisers, however for my children I used both tablet and steam and I found that the steam steriliser was the best because there is no chemicals that can upset the baby's palette.

I had a steriliser that could be used in all three of these ways and after the first time we only ever used the microwave route - it's by far the quickest and easiest.

Unless we were staying away from home and then we took tablets.

I use a microwavable sterilizer from Avent. It is proven to be safe and more santized than regular steaming; especially, who has time to steam bottles these days? You have to constantly watch the pot and make sure the water doesn't vanish and destroy the bottles. I use the microwavable sterilizer because it's simple to use and I can come back anytime to check on the bottles. It is quite expensive, but it's worth it. All you do is give it a rinse when you're done. You can use it for your future babies and we're you're done having babies, you can sell it on Ebay.

My family boils/steams bottles. It's a waste of time and money. They have to constantly buy new pots for new babies and for other family members, if they don't know that the pot is used for baby bottles only, they will use it as regular pots.

I found the best one was a big sterlising bucket with milton solution, this you do not need to rinse off and is sterilised in 15mins.
The microwave ones are only small so you cannot get many bottles in and they are not very deep making it difficult to get all the air bubbles from the bottle and properly sterilising it.
I never had a steam so couldnt comment.

Steam does good job of sterilizing because it can get to all spots of the bottle. Sterilizing dry bottles would not do the job. But if there is some water in or around the bottle, the water will turn into steam under microwave and will result in steam sterilization too.

For me, it's Steam sterilisers (can get more in them once the baby starts weaning) and cold water sterilisers (handy to have some sterilising tablets around as some teethers and toys cannot go into steam sterilisers....leave an awful mess!!).

I had a great microwave one. It took 4 bottles and was made by the manufacturer of the bottles I used (Avent) So they fitted perfectly. Also took my breast pump. Lasted me two babies. And then passed on to a relative. I could carry mine around easily.
I also had a water one with the tablets for emergencies.
I think its a matter of choice and whats convenient for you. I never had a problem with residue on my bottles in the water steriliser, maybe it depends how you use it.

Steam. So much easier to use than tablets and sticking things in the micorwave. Just put it on the side add water and push the button.

I used the avent one it was really good (that was 5 years ago)
