I would say it's more of a combination of the two. Apple's market share is much lower than Microsoft's and it's UNIX-based. I would say it's more about the fact that it's UNIX-based. Let's face it, Windows has more holes than every golf course in America combined. Even if problems arise, Apple's software engineers are very quick to fix a problem. I trust Apple.

As several have said already, it's partly a numbers game. Fewer Macs, fewer targets. There are also many virus writing tools out there, and they're mainly aimed at the Windows Operating System (OS). Note that Macs can run Windows OS, and that they're vulnerable to the Windows virus world when they do.

As Windows gets more hardened, there are more and more vulnerability attacks targeting applications rather than the OS. Attacks against applications will often work regardless of the OS they're running under.

Macs are susceptible to viruses. There are just less viruses for the mac. The reason there is less is because if your a virus programmer you want your virus to spread to the most people. Some viruses will infect both mac and PC users.

that is the main reason. only 1 in 6 computers is a Mac. If they were a larger, more effective target, which they are starting to be, and yes, after Apple mentioned that, there was an immediate rise in viruses for Apple(Bill Gates probably did it lol), then there would be lots more viruses targeting their OS.

Macs uses Unix as a base for their operating systems. Unix doesn't have all the security holes that Windows does. There are some viruses on Macs, but they are rare, because they are harder to make.

u just pointed that out more than 90 percent of the computers in the worlds are windows so hackers etc. keep targeting them & they dont give a lot of importance to macs n other Os's.

You've actually put your finger on it. Because fewer people use them, there's not as much kick for the hackers in creating a virus for them.
