it seems to me like every question on here seems to have some form of in-proper english in it...i may use it too, don't get me wrong but what the hell does "dat" mean? slang is ok, but just looks like hell when you read it....why do we americans tend to ruin a great language with weird slang and ebonics?

You realize, of course, that such laments, far from being new, are centuries old amnesiatic echos that never stopped serenading our lingustic guardians . The brits had been letting out the same sallies about the ingrateful, uppity colonials since Washington lost Necessity to the French. They complained that Americans spoke in slang, made up words and gave new meanings to existing words. Hopefully a few observers could have smiled with irony given that the same complaints were being made two centuries earlier, when Shakesphere purpled his passages with street slang and molested phrases. At all stages, the passing of a great language was bemoaned and death kneels rang, yet here we are today, speaking and writing in our wonderful, flexible, expressive language.

I can guarantee that every person who reads this article, will, at some point today, casually and unknowingly use a word that was, at one point or an other, considered "ebonics" or weird slang.

I've actually been wondering the same thing for the longest time! I guess we use it to abreviate and to express ourselves more freely and easily.

"In-proper"

Yet, you stand in judgment of our use of slang?

That's lovely.
