Well, I'm sure there are some kids in your school that don't do those things. If you have to stay to yourself because you can't find any decent friends than so be it. You don't want to get involved with kids that deal drugs because they will bring you down as well. Stay focused in your education. I know it's hard but that is the purpose of schools. To learn about the world. Don't get caught up in that teenage melodramatic existance. You're too young to worry about boyfriends and best friends and all of that crap. When you turn 30 all of those people will be gone and all you will have left is the education and hard work you put in during your younger years to give you sucess.

The year will pass, maybe faster than you think.
Remember one thing. Throughout life, we all have to make choices. You will find that wherever you go, whatever career you choose, whatever environment you are in, whichever school you attend, the same kinds of people will be there.
You used the percentage 80%. So what if you are in the 20%? In 2, 3, or 4 years from now, you and they will not even know each other.
I have seen people change jobs for only one reason. "I can't stand Joe Blow at my job. I have to get away from him."
Let me tell you. Joe Blow is everywhere, in every job, in every neighborhood, in every school.
You can make the year appear to go faster. Get involved in anything and everything that leaves you little time to think about them.
Just a little quote.
"If one needs a job done,
find a person who is busy".

i guess the only advice is be yourself and focus on school. When ppl see what your priorities are, you'll attract the right kind of ppl. Ppl like you. Did you ever consider transferring to another school, one that may be a bit further away, with a better reputation? IF you cant, then just take my advice. Stay away from the drugs and smokes and just let it be known that you are above all that. Gr.9 goes by fast anyway so don't worry about it going by faster. It went by too fast for me!
Good Luck

Get involved with the groups or sports that you're interested in. You will meet other kids there that have the same interests as you do. Decide on your boundaries before you're put in an uncomfortable position. For example, if you're with friends and they start using drugs or drinking but you already decided that you don't want those influences in your life, you will have confidence enough to get yourself out of that environment and call your Mom for a ride home. Be committed to yourself and your success and be strong. Having no friends is better than having the wrong friends.

Freshman year is so much fun, you shouldn't want to make it go by faster. (I just finished my freshman year last June.)
But I know how you feel about the drug problem in your school.
-it's probably not as bad as you think
-make a written promise to yourself that you won't get involved in drugs
-join a sport or something, so you won't have to interact with the users
-make friends with the 20% who don't use

be friendly to them but dont be friends. always be busy with something when they ask you if you want to chill. seek out the ones who arent into that hardcore stuff.
join clubs in school, get a job, get involved in stuff outside school (voluteering etc) go to CHURCH! listen to your parents when they tell you something.
follow your gut.

Good friends are hard to find, but it is worth the effort. Find one, you are fortunate, two or more, you are rich.
Seek out people that seem to have it together - look for people who have interests that are similar to yours.
