Put up a map of the U.S. Throw a dart at the map, wherever it sticks is where you should go. Give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised!

You need to do some research. There are hundreds of great universities in the US but you don't say what your field of study is. There are different colleges that are better known for different areas of study.
As for house prices, they vary so dramatically it is impossible to give an accurate answer to this question. The east and west coast tend to be more expensive than the midwest. There are many fine universities in the Midwest also. Depending on whether you want to live near a big city or small city or small town.
Large city, you might want to look at Northwestern University (Chicago) small city you might want to look at Notre Dame (South Bend, Indiana) small town you might want to look at Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, Indiana)
This is truly a minute sample of the schools the US has to offer.
Does your school have a counselor of some kind that you could talk to about this? He/She may be able to give good recommendations and suggestions also.
Good luck!

My opinion is that American Universities are way overpriced. I obtained my MS-IS in NY, but without the graduate assistantship job that I was lucky to get, I could have never made it. American college is good only if you can't make it into a top European school (almost free) but there you might need to pass some tough exam for admission.
