Watching too much of TV, and staying up late for no reasons badly effects the eyes.
If you have chance to go to Singapore, you will see that almost all people except the very old ones either wearing glasses or contact lenses for the only reason that they watch too much of TV and that too not from very far.

well it can develop before five years of age because of the nerves not growing properly, this is called lazy eye... it can be corrected before the age of five, but afterwards, the child will possibly need glasses... this is what happened with me, my mom never took me to the optometrist, until I complained about not being able to see far away, then she took me there, and he told me i had a lazy eye... my mom isnt very happy, she feels very guilty... so please get your child's eyes checked as soon as its possible :)
