No, i have msn 7.5 and that allows me to use and view webcam...even with older versions, i was able to use it and view people's webcams, maybe there is something wrong with your camera...maybe it isnt installed or something.
If you still want to change it, go to msn.com and you can download it from there.

Why dont you just log on to yahoo.com or yahoo.co.whatever your country code is and download yahoo messenger 8 (the latest version). It wont take too much time, depending upon your internet and computer speed.
I m sure you will be able to see other people on web cams if you click on their 'view my webcam' line, when they broadcast their, make sure to make urself availabe (appear online).
You can always keep ur hotmail address, thast no problem. You can also make a new yahoo ID and use any of these two...one at a time.
Good Luck

You might need to make sure you have the same settings enabled as they do for the webcam.
If you want to download Windows Live Messenger, it'll be fine - it's just a software upgrade, so you don't need to change your address or anything about your account. It's very similar to the old one if you're just using it for chatting, but does other funky stuff too.

http://messenger.msn.com/
Click get it now and go through the install. Tell it you already have an email so you dont need to register for a new one.
Log in as normal (looks different but acts the same), and cameras should work.
And yes, if the other person is using a newer messenger than you (7.5 Vs live), it will require upgrading.
