First there is coaching involved in each schools where by they select the best talent available to play for their respective schools. So based on the matches and tournaments like under 13, under 15 under 19 etc, the players who perform well in the tournaments stand better chance than others in the selection for the State under 13 etc, as the selectors and various coaches watch them play and if they have potential and score plenty in all the matches, they will be selected to represent their state under 13 or 15 etc.So once they establish in sub juniors level and then they make their grade in juniors level like under 15,under 17 etc. Here also the same process of selection and during this time selectors would have enough feed back about the wards in national camps. so once they play for higher level they will be watched by the selectors of under 15 and 17 etc.So depending on the individual dedication to make it to the top he will first represent his school, then his state and then zone. From there on he continues to player more competitive cricket and higher standard.During Under 19 if there is any teams coming to India he will also be selected to play for India based on his performance in the board conducted tournaments.
Once he finishes school there is sports Quota in some colleges which picks up good cricketers who played for state and zone.here the standard is higher than the school. So based on the inter college tournaments, and various trophies conducted by various colleges,he then goes for selection for representing his university, and if he performs well he will be selected for his respective zone to compete with other zone. This is turning point in many career as Sunil gavaskar made it to Indian team scoring heavily representing West zone in university matches.
