As an engineer I can tell you that an engineering drawing is one of many documents used by engineering to specify something. An engineering drawing is a controlled document used to convey information in a graphical way. The importance of the engineering drawing depends on the organization where it's used. Once the engineering drawing is complete and approved it can be handed to the production team for fabrication or assembly, without the presence of the engineer or draftsman who developed the drawing.

I hope this helps!

when you look at an object, what do you see. If you look closely, you can see the length, width, height, contour, shape and that's about it. But, what can't you see. You can't see the depth, the other side, the other contour(s), or anything else. That's why you have an engineering drawing. To specify what makes any type of object from any view.

drawing in engineering are those isometric, top view, bird's eye view and etc.. since engineers employ people to work for them, they should know how to explain and show to them their design in layman's term and explanation..
