It is a movie that the company is no longer making new copies of. The manufacturer was not selling copies or making money, so they quit printing copies of the movie. Something thing happens with out of print books, CD, etc. If you are lucky, you may find an old copy on a store shelf somewhere, but no new ones are being made.

A movie that has been released in a home format that has sold out on the market, and has not been reissued, or can no longer be reproduced. Most movies have a shelf life of six months to a year, then the studio stores them for a few years, revamps them, and re releases them as a 'new' version. A shining example is The Wizard of Oz, which has gone out of print several times, and been reissued years later in a new box with new extras. B.
