Get real. People pay taxes to contribute to society. The unfortunate thing is that we don't have a truly progressive tax system where the rates are progressively higher as income increases, since higher income people have benefited more proportionately of the benefits of the society.
To just call for a tax break invariable ends up with the lowering of taxes for the better off and the disenfranchisement of the less well off. What's really needed is a consciousness raising campaign to show people that a civil society is built on the principle that one must contribute more than one takes.
