I'm looking for around 50 plastic bins/trays for my workshop, as near as possible to the following size: width 250mm x length/depth 400mm x height 130mm. Does anyone know where I can buy something close to those dimensions?

Sears is a good place. Check the tool department. Target, if one is close to you. (width 9 3/4 inches, depth 16+/- inches, height 5 1/8 inches). Officemax, Office depot, They have catalogs you can order from.

Sorry, they gave up on the metric system here.... We routinely use small plastic bins in our business, with closeable tops, in a wide variety of sizes... The best place we have found is Wal-mart, for pricing and variety of sizes available... Big Lots is also another good place to look... Dollar stores sometimes handle them as well, although the selection is much reduced... My advice , if none of these places is an option for you, is E-bay, or the internet in general... E-bay has a want-it-now place where they will post your request for thousands of people to peruse, you could advertise for what you need, I have found several things I needed there...Good Luck !!!

Wash out the bins with a soapy water, rinse good and let air dry outside in the sun. Then take a sniff if you still smell it take some newspapers and crumple them up and fill the bins with that. Put the lids on them and let them set for a day. Then take the newspapers out and sniff again the smell should be gone. If it's not then repeat the thing with the newspapers until it is.

You could try Staples or Homebase - Look out for the 'Really Useful' boxes - they come in a multitude of sizes...
